Linksy Silo Network: How Does it Work?

In today’s blog post, I will be walking you through the process of creating a silo network using Linksy.

Silo networks can enhance the structure and visibility of your content by creating a hierarchy that connects related posts.

By following this guide, you’ll learn the fastest, most efficient ways to set up a silo network, whether you prefer an automated approach or a more hands-on process.

What is a Silo Network in Linksy? #

A silo network is a structure in which related posts are grouped under a main topic, or “pillar.”

This setup can improve your site’s organization and help boost SEO by establishing connections between relevant posts.

In Linksy, there are two primary ways to create a silo: starting from the Silo Network page or beginning on the Reports page.

While each has benefits, starting from the Reports page is often faster and more efficient.

Step 1: Preparing Your Silo Structure #

Before you begin, it helps to know exactly what silo you want to create. #

This will allow you to select relevant posts to add to the silo quickly.

For even smoother organization, consider adding all posts you intend to include under the same category or tag within your Linksy system.

Step 2: Getting Started on the Reports Page #

The Reports page in Linksy does more than show metrics for your posts and pages; it also serves as a gateway to other Linksy features through the Bulk Actions dropdown menu.

Here’s how to create your silo from the Reports page:

  • Filter Your Posts: First, filter the posts you want to add to the silo using the Category or Tag filters, or a combination of both to narrow down your selection.
  • Select “Create Silo” and Apply: Once you’ve filtered the posts, select “Create Silo” and click “Apply” to be taken to the Silo Network page.

Step 3: Choosing Your Pillar Post #

On the Silo Network page, you’ll be prompted to choose a Pillar post. This is the main post in your silo network, with other posts acting as supporting content.

  • Select the Pillar Post: Click on a post to designate it as the Pillar. If you make a mistake, you can simply select another post, and Linksy will automatically update the selection.
  • Continue to the Network Setup: Once your Pillar post is set, click “Continue” to move on.

Step 4: Setting Up Your Silo Mapping #

The next step involves mapping, which establishes how the posts in your silo will connect. Linksy provides two options: Linear Mapping and Cross Mapping.

Linear Mapping (Support to Pillar) #

In Linear Mapping, each support post links directly to the Pillar, without any connections to other support posts.

This type is also called “Support to Pillar” mapping, and it’s ideal when you want to establish a direct relationship with no interlinking between the supporting content.

Cross Mapping (Support to Pillar and Support to Support) #

Cross Mapping, also known as “Support to Pillar and Support to Support,” creates connections not only between each support post and the Pillar but also among the support posts themselves.

This allows for both vertical and horizontal connections in your network.

Selecting Your Mapping Option: Choose your preferred mapping style—Linear or Cross. Once selected, click “Mapping” to apply it. The mapping process is quick, often taking just a few seconds.

Step 5: Choosing a Linking Mode: Auto vs. Assisted #

With your mapping set, you’re ready to link posts within the silo. Linksy offers two modes: Auto Mode and Assisted Mode.

Auto Mode: Quick and Efficient #

Auto Mode is perfect for time-saving. In this mode, Linksy automatically generates snippets for each title pair, which you can then link in a single step.

This mode is especially useful for larger networks, where manually linking posts would be time-consuming.

Assisted Mode allows you to manually tailor each link by using focus keywords and a paragraph rewriter if you want more control.

This can help make each connection more relevant and precisely tuned to your content needs.

Tip: Both modes use your Generative AI Credits, which you can check in the top-right corner of your Linksy dashboard.

Step 6: Generating Snippets for Linking #

Click “Generate Snippet” to start creating snippets for your posts. The Snippet Generation page will display progress as snippets are generated.

Since each snippet takes about two seconds, you can estimate the total time needed for your network.

How Snippet Generation Works:
Linksy analyzes each source post, finds a relevant paragraph, and selects an anchor text for linking.

If a snippet generation fails, you can filter it out and fix the issue quickly. Linksy also skips pairs that already share links.

Step 7: Linking Your Network #

Once snippets are ready, select “Select All” to link all posts in the network.

The linking process runs in the background, and you can track its progress from the table header. When completed, your silo network will be fully linked.

Optional: Creating a Silo Network Manually #

In the Manual Process, you’ll add posts to the network individually, which can be beneficial if you want a custom selection.

  1. Select the Pillar Post: Start by choosing a Pillar post from the left panel. Linksy will suggest related posts in the right panel.
  2. Choose Posts to Add: You can select posts based on suggestions, the same category, or the same tag.
  3. Select Mapping and Linking Options: The steps for mapping and linking remain the same as in the automated process.

Example: Using Linear Mapping will create links from each support post directly to the Pillar, while Assisted Mode allows you to create snippets for each title pair before linking.

Final Review: Key Features of the Silo Network Page #

To finish, let’s review the main features of the Silo Network page:

  • Filter: Quickly search for titles, sources, snippets, or target posts.
  • Add Supports: Use this dialog to add more posts to the network.
  • Pairs Filter: Customize your view by filtering post pairs.
  • Home Button: Return to the Silo Network main page.
